September 11th Day of Remembrance and Service Events
The Greater Eugene One Voice Community Chorus was honored to sing our repertoire of patriotic and inspirational songs as part of the 9/11 Day of Remembrance and Service. Each of our members wore a silver locket around her neck that contained the name of a woman who lost her life during the tragedies of 9/11. It was with gratitude that we honored those who lost their lives and the heroes who responded to the tragic events of 9/11/01.
Our first performance on 9/11 was at the Hope Abbey Mausoleum in the Masonic Cemetery, a beautiful marble-walled space that echoed our voices. A young college bugler played Taps at the end of the performance which moved many to tears.
Our second performance was at the center court area of Valley River Center. The ceremony started with a presentation of flags by a local boy scout troop. What an honor to sing for the standing-room-only crowd of over 200 people in attendance under a beautiful 15-by-25 foot US flag.
On Monday, 9/12, we performed our entire 9/11 Day of Remembrance and Service program at Sheldon Oaks, a local retirement community.
Following is some of the press coverage of this meaningful and moving day.
This event was also covered on one of our local radio stations KLCC, 89.7.
